When looking to make the decision of buying a new RV, have you stopped to think about some of the things you will be giving up? Certain happenings you might miss a lot? The first thing that pops into everyone?s mind is the comfort factor, however, be sure that you are willing to give up some of the camping experience that comes with the price of that comfort.
It is really nice to have a kitchen at your disposal when you camp in an RV. Most are complete with a stove, sink and refrigerator. You are able to stow your plates and cups in the cupboards, keeping them nice and clean for meals. I?m sure most of us have had to make due with boxes and coolers for storage while tenting it, washing dinnerware in basins and cooking over the fire. So how many of you smiled and nodded just now when you read that line? For as much of a convenience a kitchen is, few memories are forged here. You will still have a great time, but it definitely is not the same as roughing it.
Bathrooms are another amazing perk while in the wild in an RV. That is one I can?t argue with. I laugh while the guys go off and try to find a spot with suitable shelter for me, walking sticks in hand as if it is some big adventure. Then, they dedicate the place with the roll of TP and come running back to tell me where they set it up. Okay, so that is sort of funny too?but there?s just something great about a toilet.
Do you have something against the nylon walls of a tent? Some just like the fortress feeling only an RV can provide in the outdoors. If the weather turns on you, move the party inside and play some cards. When morning comes on the good days, you aren?t covered in dew. If animals prowl around in the night, you feel a little more safe. It sure ruins a trip quick to come back from hiking to find your tent and belongings mutilated by the wildlife. Hehe?
And then we come back to the comfort factor. What?s better than sleeping on an actual mattress under the roof?under the stars? If I could have the best of both worlds, I would use a huge canvas tent and bring a mattress! I?m afraid I would miss the sounds of the crickets and the frogs singing me to sleep, but I would not miss the hard ground or the airbeds that deflate overnight.
There are many things to think about when making the switch from tent camping to trailer camping. Make your own list. Compromise and have dinner at the fire once or twice. Make it a point to sleep under the stars even. For that matter, tell the guys they can still use an outdoor bathroom of their choosing!
